Dr. Michel Francisco Abanto Marin
Associate researcher
Dr Michel Abanto is BSc in Microbiology and Parasitology (Universidad Nacional de Trujillo, Peru), MSc in Molecular Biology (Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, Peru) and PhD in Computational and Systems Biology at the Oswaldo Cruz Institute in Brazil (2013). He continued with a Postdoctoral period in Microbial Genomics at the Oswaldo Cruz Institute (2013-2016), and later he worked as an Associate Researcher in the Department of Biology and Biochemistry at the University of Bath in the United Kingdom. He currently works as a Teacher and Researcher at the Scientific and Technological Center (BIOREN) of the University of La Frontera in Chile. He has experience in microbial genomics and bioinformatics. Dr. Abanto has worked with genomic data on important environmental and clinical. He has also worked with metagenomic approaches to recover microbe genomes, including virus and nematodes, from metagenomic samples. His research interests are in microbial evolution and genome plasticity. During the last years he supervises students and teach in microbial genomics and bioinformatics.
